Complaint Trends

When considering a 2019 Nissan Altima, it’s important to research the other model years as well. This helps provide a broader perspective on a car model’s complaint history and potential issues.

Here are a few reasons why:
Understanding the car’s evolution: Car models can undergo significant changes from year to year, both in terms of design and functionality. This knowledge can help you better appreciate the car’s strengths and weaknesses and determine whether the specific year you are considering is the best buy.

Identifying recurring issues: Some car models have recurring issues that may not be apparent in a specific year. By researching the other model years, you can identify any recurring issues that the car may have and determine whether they have been resolved in the specific year you are considering. This knowledge can help you make an informed decision and avoid potential costly repairs down the line.

Overall, researching other Nissan Altima years will help identify the model year with the lowest amount of high severity complaints, further ensuring a better car buying decision.

Timeline of Complaints

The timeline of complaints identifies how many problems owners reported with the 2019 Nissan Altima while covered under the Bumper-to-Bumper and Powertrain warranties.

Seeing how many complaints have been filed for a car while it is still under warranty can be beneficial in several ways:

  • Indicates reliability: If a vehicle has a high volume of high severity complaints filed while still under warranty, it may indicate that the car is not reliable. This information can be valuable for a car shopper who is looking for a car that will be dependable and require minimal repairs.
  • Helps identify potential issues: By researching the complaints filed for a particular model, a car shopper can get an idea of the common issues that owners face with the vehicle.
  • Can influence warranty coverage negotiations: If you have a 2019 Nissan Altima and your warranty claim for expensive repairs is rejected, having a record of similar complaints can increase your chances of getting the defect covered under warranty. In other words, documenting common issues with your vehicle could help you negotiate better warranty coverage.

CAR ENGINE RUNNING PARKED IN DRIVEWAY. I WAS IN THE HOUSE. SON WAS ON PORCH. YELLED THAT CAR WAS MOVING. WHEN IT SAW THAT IT WAS BACKING UP I RAN TO TRY TO STOP IT. THE CAR BACKED DOWN MY DRIVEWAY, WHICH WAS FLAT WITH NO INCLINE, TO THE STREET, ACROSS THE STREET AND INTO THE NEIGHBOR'S HOUSE. THE STREET IS QUIET A BIT HIGHER THAN DRIVEWAY BUT IT SEEMED TO PICK UP SPEED WHEN IT WENT OVER IT. I REACHED IT RIGHT AS IT HIT THE NEIGHBORS HOUSE. I CALLED POLICE DEPT. VEHICLE WAS IN PARK THE ENTIRE TIME. I TOOK IT TO NISSAN DEALERSHIP BUT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED IT TO DO THAT. IF MY HANDICAP SON HAD BEEN GETTING IN VEHICLE WHEN THIS OCCURRED IT WOULD HAVE CAUSED HIM SERIOUS INJURY AND COULD HAVE CAUSED ANYONE THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN PASSING ON THE STREET OR IN THE NEIGHBORS YARD TO BE INJURED. NEIGHBOR IS AN OLDER MAN AND HE WAS QUITE SHAKEN UP. THE IMPACT SHOOK HIS HOUSE QUITE A BIT. I HAVE BEEN AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. WILL SUPPLY POLICE REPORT WHEN IT IS AVAILABLE FROM THE POLICE DEPT.

Since I purchased this car during warranty 2 of the door locks quit working and was replaced under warranty but since the warranty has ran out the other 2 door locks quit working. So if I lock my door it will not unlock so I have to crawl in a door that will lock. The other option is not lock my doors so everything can be stolen out of my car or I could be robbed since they could open my door at any parking lot or redlight.

My key does not unlock or lock my passenger or rear doors. So far it only unlocks the driver door. I have to get in and unlock the doors manually. The key fab works but the door sensors do not respond. I looked it up and this has been a common problem reported for the 2019 Nissan Altima along with other electrical problems. I’ve had to replace the battery twice. This is a 2019 vehicle which I purchased in 2020. Had to replace the battery in 2021 and in 2023. The most pressing issue right now is the door locks. This is an expensive repair. There should be a recall issued so that Nissan can repair the door sensors.

All Door Lock Actuators. This is available for inspection. The safety of myself and passengers is at risk due to not being able to unlock and lock my vehicle at any given time. This is a security risk for any occupants in the event of needing to quickly lock doors or unlock in the event of an emergency. This also puts my vehicle at risk of theft and being stolen. The door actuators will not activate from the remote key or the unlock/lock buttons inside the vehicle. Yes, I had Jim Johnson Nissan (Bowling Green, KY) look at the problem and they confirmed and quoted me for this. No, it has not been inspected by the manufacturer. There was no warning to the problem. The first door actuator failed at around 50,000 miles (2021) and progressed to all door actuators failing. This problem is reoccurring in this model of the Nissan Altima

The shutter in the front of the car is defective. This part not working causes the car to overheat. There are so many issues with this exact same problem on this exact car that there is literally a back order and I cannot get the part so now I can’t use my car. My mechanic place said he’s seen 4 of these cars in the past week with the same problem and can’t get the parts because of back order. If there are this many issues that it’s causing this much of a shortage and it can cause overheating this should be a recall issue.

The occupant detection sensor unit on my car has malfunctioned for the 3rd time. My car has never been in an accident or have had the air bags deployed. The first incident was November 2021 with 24,163 miles. The dealer performed a zero-point reset. The second incident was January 2023 with 53,665 miles. The dealer again performed a zero-point reset but charged $170.03 to repair. The dealer told me this is not covered by my extended warranty. The dealer told me if it happened again they would have to replace the sensor and it will cost approximately $1000 - and it is not covered by my Nissan VSC extended warranty. Now it malfunctioned for the 3rd time in May 2023 with 57,155 miles. This appears to be a known issue for Nissan with TSB NTB19-071. I am frustrated that Nissan is asking for payment to replace a faulty sensor that affects air bag deployment in an accident. I believe this is a safety issue that Nissan should pay to replace. My ask is for Nissan to recall these vehicles or voluntarily replace the faulty sensors at no cost to the vehicle owner.

Please note that I have my car regularly inspected for oil changes and maintenance. The adaptive cruise control stopped working August 2022. The car displays "malfunction" on the dashboard. This was inconvenient and at first intermittent, but I did not think it was putting any persons safety at risk. I went to a local Nissan dealership in NJ and they stated it would cost $600 to replace, but no safety issues. Therefore I did not get this fixed at the time. On March 14 2023, I was merging onto a highway in daylight around 4pm. It had started flurrying, but no changes in visibility. There was no car immediately in front of me. The collision warning suddenly came on and the emergency brakes were activated while attempting to accelerate onto a 65 mph highway in NJ. It was extremely startling. It certainly could have caused an accident, especially when vehicles are accelerating to merge onto a highway. I was fortunate that there was no car immediately behind me. On April 26 and 27 2023, the emergency brake was activated again due to a collision warning while in a parking garage. The only correlation I can think that ties these occurrences is when driving from a shaded to sunny location. All three times it also occurred during acceleration. This new problem is quite concerning and dangerous.

Every time I get in my car a start to drive either forward of backing up my car dings and a message pops up ont the display that says "warning ️ Malfunction" and shows the car crash button. I have not been in any accidents and it randomly started happening a few days ago. Now I worry that my car may not sensor any objects in my path or that it could trigger my automatic break to kick in creating an accident. I have also researched online and found others who have experienced the same thing but there is no open recall on my vehicle.

Ice deposits forming in the engine EGR valve preventing the EGR valve from properly functioning. This results in a "limp home mode" where the engine power output is severely reduced. Ice deposits physically verified by dealer. this condition routinely happens when parked outdoors in temps below 0F. When effected the car cannot reach highway speeds. Problem resolved by completely warming up the engine followed by an engine restart to clear the ECM error.

Tire blew out suddenly while driving at 35mph on my way to work on a well-paved/well-lit road around 6:15AM on October 7th 2021. The sidewall completely separated. There were no warning signs or objects hit/run over that caused the blow out. No one else was on the road at the time and the vehicle was going at a low speed, so luckily no one was injured. I was able to pull into a parking lot to put on a spare tire. The tires were purchased with the car as new in 2019. They had very low mileage and balanced appropriately at the time. There were no extreme conditions (location was in Palm Beach, FL where vehicle had been since purchase). Tire size: 215 / 55 R 17 94 V

I have Nissan Altima 2019 SR. It has an automatic front emergency brake system that brakes when the car is close enough to save from an accident to occur. But it did the opposite means it risked my life by braking in the middle of the road in traffic even if no cars are in front of me. I was saved a couple of times because there were no cars around me when it did that. But it seems very dangerous and risking life and other around my nissan car. I contacted customer service, they told me I have to pay for that repair. It is ridiculous. How to find justice on this issue? Is this a way these car companies make faulty systems and risk human lives? Do I deserve this? Please help me to solve this problem.

The front radar distance sensor becomes blocked and unavailable while driving. This happens every time I drive the car. Several times the warning message came on and the car tried to briefly brake. I took my car into the Nissan dealership and they confirmed the sensor has failed and recommends replacement. This is a known issue with Several models of Nissan cars per NHTSA NTB19-033A. This has been happening in my car for about two weeks. I took it in to the dealership as soon as I could after noticing the problem. I believe my car was built at the end of 2018 and has this faulty sensor reference in NHTSA NTB19-033A or clearly they have not rectified the problem fully. I think 2019 vehicles should be added to the recall.

My fiancé and I were driving late at night on a straight, one lane road going just over 40 mph with NOTHING in front of us. For no reason the pre-collision front sensor went off indicating we had the potential of hitting the vehicle in front of us even though there was nothing there. Moments later the dashboard went white showing a red triangle and the automatic braking system came on engaging all the brakes and abruptly reducing the vehicle's speed to approximately 15mph before it disengaged. That this time we had no control over the speed of the vehicle and could only steer the car to the side of the road. Had another vehicle been behind us there would have been an awful accident where us and the driver behind us would have been injured as there is no way anyone could have anticipated such an inappropriate speed change at that time. I brought the vehicle into the dealership days later. They could not duplicate my concern. They found past trouble codes of C1A16 & C1A17 on the vehicle's history. They recommended calibrating the distance sensor and road tests but were not confident this would fix the problem and stated a new sensor may need to be purchased. Upon experiencing this traumatic event in my Nissan vehicle I posted my experience on Facebook and had 3 people I personally know reach out to me saying they experienced similar events in their Nissan. All the people had 2017 or newer Nissans vehicles that included the Sentra and Rogue models. No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem appeared prior to the failure besides the pre-collision sensor incorrectly coming on as described above. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.

The forward AEB system warning light illuminated at 47,124 miles. I parked the car, turned it off and then restarted it and the light remained off for about 5 miles before re-illuminating and remaining on continuously. While I was driving, the car began braking at random times when there was no vehicle in front of me, and would decelerate to 40mph sporadically. I ended up pulling over on the highway and having the vehicle towed to my office until I could afford to have it taken to a Nissan dealer. I purchased the vehicle used on June 8, 2022 and this malfunction first occurred today, June 13, 2022. The Nissan Infotainment System Crashes when connected to Apple Carplay when you receive a call from Microsoft Teams, or attempt to make a call from Microsoft Teams. It sends the Infotainment System into a recurring reboot Cycle that can only be stopped by the call ending. This has been an ongoing issue for almost 2 year and through 2 different Software Versions, 0810 and now 0912. This is a significant Safety Hazard as many individuals travel via Car for their Jobs and many Companies heavily utilize Microsoft Teams for Meetings, especially as a result of the Pandemic. Having the Ability to operate Handsfree is essential not only from a Safety standpoint, but from a Legal standpoint. During research, this is not a minor problem, and I believe has been ignored due to the Pandemic and the belief that less people are driving and traveling and utilizing Microsoft Teams via Apple Carplay. Nissan needs to address this issue immediately to resolve what is causing the Infotainment System to crash when making and receiving calls via Microsoft Teams, so the Safety of it's Consumers is no longer put at risk. The Date noted below is the last time it has occurred, but as noted, has been going on for almost 2 years.

It continued to randomly change between stations at full blast. I was unable to adjust the volume via the steering wheel controls or radio controls. I was also unable to shutoff the radio. the changes were sudden, shocking, and they caused me to hit the breaks and jerk into another lane. The issue continues randomly and happens on freeways, highways, city streets and at stoplights. there is no common trend to when it happens or what the vehicle is doing at the time. controls become unresponsive to address it until the vehicle is shutoff. The vehicle has been brought in several times to Walzer Nissan Group in MN that have reviewed video footage of the radio doing this. they have validated the issue and are unable to repair it.

At about 12 months we noticed an intermittent clunking sound from the rear of the car. We took it to the dealer and was advised they could not duplicate the problem. I went to have the car state inspected 1/20/22 and it failed. Both reared shocks were determined to be bad, one of which was leaking badly. I brought the car back to a Nissan dealer and was told nothing could be done as my mileage was 45,000. I was told the repair would be approx. $800. Most of my miles are easy highway miles. There obviously was a defect in the shock observers or the assembly of them. No way should new shocks be needed in a car a little over 3 years old with 45K miles on it

There is no incident. I am writing about the safety hazards of the oncoming blue bright lights coming from the oncoming cars/trucks SUV's etc. I own a Sedan and on a highway these blue lights ( in all new vehicles) blind you. The trucks and SUV's are having so bright light that it is difficult to drive. The adaptive lights are no good on a dark two lane road, specially on a road with snow. This is more dangerous on an incline where the vehicles are coming at fast on a two lane dark road. In my opinion the Blue lights should be banned and instead the yellow lights should be made compulsory for all vehicles.

I was driving to work and all of a sudden the warning came on for the front radar malfunctioning. I have taken my car to the dealership where I get the oil changes and was told that Nissan would not cover it. I was told I needed a front distance bracket and quoted almost $800 for repair. The rep told me that the mechanic said I had a aftermarket bumper on my car and i explained that my car was in an accident twice in the months of april and may. but that should not be the reason of the problem because the light was never on my car when both accidents ocurred and after repairs. We are in the month of september why would it be on now? This is my only source of transportation and I feel for my safety with this car that something else could happen while I'm driving and I pray that it don't. The same day it started malfunctioning a small animal ran under my car. It has been times that while on the highway othere drivers would cut me off or get to close and my sensor want alert me. Thank goodness I be watching the road.

My safety and the safety of others was put at risk when the vehicle stalled at a traffic light or in the middle of traffic. Took the vehicle to autozone to be scanned and they confirmed it was the transmission. The vehicle has not been inspected by the dealer yet because I would have to paid between $200-350 to have the vehicle towed to the dealership where the vehicle was purchased which is two hours away. The local dealership charges $130 to diagnosis my vehicle. There were no warning lamps or messages prior to the failure. The CVT message appeared on my dashboard after the vehicle stalled and would not accelerate more than 5 miles or would not move at all upon acceleration of the gas. In addition to the current transmission issue, I have also had the brake light switch adjusted twice. The Automatic Emergency Braking System continuously brakes and slows the car down when driving. One particular incident happened on 6/15/2021 when I was travelling at 45MPH and there we cars behind me. The system beeped as if it detected a crash and then stop the car. There were no other cars in front on me and I almost got into an accident because of the sudden braking. There were no warning lamps, messages, or anything else that would prompt the vehicle to immediately break. It has done this 3 more times in the last two weeks and its hazardous to me and other drivers on the road. Now every time I put my vehicle in drive it says AEB malfunction and the vehicle no longer detects forward collisions or any passengers. I haven't taken the vehicle to the dealership yet; however, I had an oil change and when the dealer inspected my vehicle they said everything was in good shape. I'm not sure how this was missed.

I had no choice but to change to a new 2019 Nissan. Now the same thing is happening to this new Nissan Altima and Nissan is not willing to fix the issue without charge. This is very frustrating. I been having issue with the door not unlocking with a remote and they fixed it once and now I have the same issue they are willing to fix again. But My main concern is not the door but the engine light they refuse to fix. Please help.

I HAVE HAD TWO SEPARATE INCIDENTS 8 MONTHS APART. WHILE DRIVING IN THE CITY LIMITS ON BOTH OCCURRENCES GOING ABOUT 45 MPH BOTH TIMES, WITHOUT ANY NOTICE OR POTENTIAL COLLISION THE AEB ENGAGED, AND A RED FLASH CAME ACROSS MY DASHBOARD. THE FIRST TIME IT WAS JUST ME IN THE CAR WITH VERY LITTLE TRAFFIC AROUND ME, WHEREAS WITH THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE THE TRAFFIC WAS HEAVIER. I HAD MY MOTHER AND 2 YOUNG CHILDREN IN THE BACKSEAT, WITH A TRUCK THAT LOOKED LIKE A F-150 NOT FAR BEHIND ME. I HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM, AND I HAVE TWICE GOTTEN THE RESULTS THAT THEY ARE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, SO I GUESS IT CAN'T BE RECTIFIED. THANKFULLY I HAVE NOT HAD AN ACCIDENT, BUT DRIVING THE CAR IN THAT CONDITION RAISES THE RISK OF A COLLISION, AND I'M DONE WITH THAT RISK.

IN 2020 IN THE MONTH OF AUGUST, I BOUGHT MY FIRST CAR FROM HONDA OF FORT MYERS LOCATED IN FLORIDA. THE CAR SEEMED LIKE IT WAS A GREAT CAR. HOWEVER, THE CAR BEGIN TO HAVE MINOR PROBLEMS LIKE I DISCOVER A CLUNG NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE CAR. WHEN I TOOK IT TO GET IT CHECK, THE TECHNICIAN DISCOVERED THAT ONE OF THE BREAK PADS WAS LOOSE. THAT WAS JUST ONE OF PROBLEM. THE MAIN PROBLEM AND COMPLAINT THAT I HAVE IS THE CAR WAS SOLD TO ME WITH THREE BENT RIMS. AFTER DISCOVERING A SHAKE WHEN I REACH 40 MPH, I TOOK IT TO GET LOOKED AT BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS THE TIRES. ONCE I TOOK IT IN TO GET NEW TIRES, THE TIRE TECHNICIAN TOOK A LOOK AT IT AND REALIZED THAT IT WAS THE RIMS AND NOT THE TIRES. SO I DECIDED TO GO BACK TO WHERE I BOUGHT IT FROM AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NOTHING I CAN DO BECAUSE I BOUGHT THE CAR AS IF.

AFTER PURCHASING VEHICLE, I REALIZED THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEATBELT DOESN'T LOCK SECURELY IN PLACE ONCE FULLY EXTRACTED. I CALLED THE DEALER THAT I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM & THEY STATED THAT NONE OF THE NISSANS ON THEIR LOT DRIVERS SEATBELTS LOCKS IN PLACE ONCE FULLY EXTRACTED. I FIND IT STRANGE THAT EVERY OTHER SEATBELT INSIDE MY ALTIMA LOCKS IN SECURELY EXCEPT FOR THE DRIVER'S SIDE. I THINK THAT'S A MAJOR SAFETY (YET BASIC) HAZARD ON A VEHICLE WITH MULTIPLE COMPLEXED SAFETY FEATURES. NOTHING HAPPENED PER SAY YET, I WANT TO GET THIS ADDRESSED BEFORE IT'S TO LATE & SOMETHING DOES OCCUR. I JUST PULSE LIKE THIS PREVENTATIVE OBSERVATION HANDLED AT YOUR EARLIEST CONVENIENCE. WHILE DRIVING OR STATIONARY OF THE VEHICLE. WHEN SPRAYING WATER ON THE WINDSHIELD FROM THE WINDSHIELD WASHER SPRAYERS, IT ONLY SPRAYS ON THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD AND DOES NOT COVER THE ENTIRE WINDSHIELD. YOU HAVE TO CONTINUOUSLY SPRAY WATER SO THE WIPERS CAN SPREAD THE WATER ON THE WINDSHIELD. BUT DOING THIS DOES NOT ALWAYS MAKE THE WINDSHIELD CLEAN. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN. THE WATER SPRAYS ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE HOOD AND THEN ONTO THE WINDSHIELD. THE DEALER HAS NOT YET BEEN ADVISED OF THIS ISSUE. THE WAY THE WASHER SPRAYERS ARE MOUNTED, I DOUBT THAT THE PROBLEM CAN BE EASILY FIXED.

ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL AND AUTOMATIC BRAKING ARE DISABLED DUE TO "FRONT RADAR BLOCKED". THIS IS A BRAND NEW VEHICLE I HAVE HAD FOR ABOUT TWO WEEKS (LESS THAN 1,000 MILES). AFTER DOING SOME INTERNET RESEARCH, THIS APPEARS TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE WITH NISSAN VEHICLES SINCE 2018. I BELIEVE MY VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED IN LATE 2018. THE ISSUE WAS FIRST NOTICED WHILE DRIVING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED AND I KEPT GETTING CLOSER TO THE VEHICLE AHEAD OF ME WITHOUT MY VEHICLE AUTOMATICALLY SLOWING DOWN (I.E., THE CAR MAINTAINED THE CRUISE CONTROL SET SPEED.) AFTER MANUALLY BRAKING AND RESETTING THE CRUISE CONTROL, THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD EVENTUALLY SHUT OFF AND THE ATTACHED MESSAGE WOULD BE DISPLAYED. PRIOR TO THE ISSUE BEING OBSERVED (APPROX. FIRST 500 MILES DRIVEN), THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL AND AUTOMATIC BRAKING WORKED FINE.

I OWN A 2019 NISSAN ALTIMA AWD AND HAVE EXPERIENCED A FEW PROBLEMS. THE MOST SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM IS THE DEFECTIVE FORWARD COLLISION SAFETY FEATURE. TWO TIMES THE VEHICLE HAS IMPROPERLY AND ABRUPTLY APPLIED BRAKES, THE FEATURE IS INTENDED TO AVOID COLLISION, BUT INSTEAD ITS MALFUNCTION IS CREATING ROAD HAZARDS. I CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND THEY HAVE EVADED ME AND EVERYTIME I CALL THEY SAY YOU HAVE BEEN ASSIGNED A CASE AND SOMEONE WILL CALL YOU SOON. I ATTEMPTED TO SERVICE THE VEHICLE TWO TIMES THIS WEEK AT TWO DIFFERENT NISSAN DEALERSHIPS. ONE TURNED ME AWAY STATING IT'S A KNOWN PROBLEM AND NISSAN DOES NOT HAVE A FIX YET. THE SECOND NISSAN DEALERSHIP WAS IN THE PROCESS OF ISSUING ME AN ALTERNATE VEHICLE WHEN THEY RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE SAME FOLKS WHO WON'T RETURN MY CALL NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS INSTRUCTING THE DEALER NOT PERFORM ANY SERVICE OR A LOANER. THIS IS SO OUTRAGEOUS, BUT I ACTUALLY HAVE IT IN WRITING TO PROVE THE LEVEL OF NEGLIGENCE AND ILL SERVICE TO FORCE A CUSTOMER TO STAY IN A VEHICLE THAT THEY DON'T FEEL SAFE IN. NONE THE LESS THEIR FAILURE TO DO THEIR DUE DILIGENCE. THE SAFETY FEATURE MALFUNCTIONED ON THE HIGHWAY ONCE AND THE NEXT TIME ON A INCLINE RAMP IN MALL PARKING GARAGE TO A FORCEFUL HARD STOP. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH 3 GENERAL MANAGERS AND 3 DIFFERENT CONSUMER AFFAIRS CALL CENTER REPS, BUT YET NO SERVICE OR CALL BACK FROM NISSAN NORTH AMERICA. NEGLIGENT NEGLIGENCE NEGLIGENT. MAY 1ST, 2019 I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT A RATE OF 70 MILES PER HOUR ON INTERSTATE 25 IN DENVER, COLORADO AND THE CAR COMPLETELY STALLED OUT. THE COMPUTER SCREEN INSTRUCTED ME TO SHIFT THE CAR INTO PARK. IT TOOK ME APPROXIMATELY 3 MINUTES TO GET THE CAR TO START AGAIN VIA THE PUSH TO START BUTTON. THIS WAS OCCURRING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSTATE DURING HEAVY VOLUME OF TRAFFIC. DEALERSHIP CLAIMS IT WAS NOT NORMAL BUT COULD NOT TELL ME WHY. JUNE 26TH, 2019 THE VEHICLE AGAIN STALLED OUT WITHOUT WARNING WHILE I WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH ON COLORADO BLVD. IN DENVER, CO. THE VEHICLE AGAIN PROMPTED ME VIA THE COMPUTER TO SHIFT THE CAR INTO PARK. I THEN SHIFTED AND PUSHED THE PUSH TO START BUTTON AND IT DID RESTART. BOTH INSTANCES THE CAR WAS IN MOTION AT HIGH SPEEDS, ONCE WAS HIGHWAY THE OTHER A BUSY STREET. I WAS GOING STRAIGHT BOTH TIMES. I WAS BREAKING SLIGHTLY BOTH TIMES. COMPLETELY UNSAFE VEHICLE.

WHILE DRIVING ALONG A HIGHWAY IN THE MIDDLE LANE, MY FIANC HEARD A LOUD NOISE THAT SOUNDED LIKE A LOUD BANG. HE THOUGHT SOMETHING HAD FALLEN ON TOP OF THE SUNROOF BUT FOUND IT STRANGE BECAUSE THERE WAS NO TREES AROUND FOR THAT TO HAPPEN. WHEN HE STOPPED AND GOT OUT OF THE CAR, HE FOUND THAT THE ENTIRE WINDSHIELD HAD SHATTERED INTO LITTLE PIECES. LUCKILY HE WAS NOT INJURED AND NO GLASS CAME THROUGH THE CAR BECAUSE THE SHIELD WAS CLOSED. THERE WERE NO DENT OR IMPACT MARKS ON THE SUNROOF OR ANY PART OF THE CAR. WHEN WE HAD A MECHANIC LOOK AT IT, HE TOLD US THAT THE BREAK BAND FROM THE INSIDE AND WAS ALMOST 'PUSHED UP' IN A WAY. NISSAN HAD DENIED OUR CLAIM, AND PAYING THE DEDUCTIBLE AND GETTING IT FIXED, I STILL HEAR A RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM ABOVE.

I BECAME AWARE OF THE AUTOMATIC WINDSHIELD WASHER PROBLEM WHEN I TRIED TO CLEAR OFF DUST AND GRIME FROM OUR NEW 2019 NISSAN ALTIMA WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. WHEN I ACTIVATED THE WASHERS TO CLEAN THE WINDSHIELD, THE WASHER FLUID BARELY SPLASHED ONTO THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD. I HAD TO REPEATEDLY ACTIVATE THE SYSTEM TO EVEN GET THE WINDSHIELD PARTLY CLEAN. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY TO GET THE PROBLEM FIXED. TO MY CHAGRIN, I WAS TOLD NO ONE ELSE HAD COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND THAT THE WASHERS OPERATE AS THEY WERE DESIGNED TO DO. BUT I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THE PLACEMENT OF THE WINDSHIELD WASHER NOZZLES UNDER THE HOOD RESULTS IN THE FLUID STREAM HITTING THE UNDERSIDE OF THE HOOD FIRST AND THEN IT ONLY PARTLY HITS THE WINDSHIELD ABOUT 1/3 OF THE WAY UP ON THE WINDSHIELD. I CONSIDER THIS TO BE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND AN INEPT DESIGN FLAW BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY CANNOT ADJUST THE FLUID STREAM TO SHOOT UP ON THE WINDSHIELD THE WAY EVERY OTHER CAR IN THE WORLD DOES. I HAVE TO LIVE WITH A BARELY CLEANABLE WINDSHIELD BECAUSE SOME DESIGNER NEVER TRIED OUT THE WASHERS IN THE REAL WORLD. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS SAFETY PROBLEM.

DEFECTIVE REARVIEW 'ANTI-GLARE' MIRROR HARDLY REDUCES ANY LIGHT AT NIGHT FROM VEHICLES BEHIND THE CAR. ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE WITHOUT DISTRACTION OR BLINDING LIGHT. THIS IS A DEFECT IN MANUFACTURING AND SHOULD BE REPLACED WITH A DESIGN THAT REDUCES LIGHT AT NIGHT. AS IS, THIS IS A DANGEROUS DESIGN, WHICH CAN CAUSE A COLLISION DUE TO THE BLINDING LIGHT THAT IS NEARLY UNCONTROLLABLE. YOU CAN SEE FROM THE PHOTOS THE MIRROR IS FUNCTIONING BUT IT'S ABSOLUTELY A TERRIBLE DESIGN THAT ALMOST DOESN'T REDUCE LIGHT AT ALL.

How the EPA Test Fuel Costs

Manufacturers test their own vehicles — usually pre-production prototypes and report the results to EPA. The EPA then reviews the results and confirms about 15%–20% of them through their own tests at the National Vehicles and Fuel Emissions Laboratory.

The EPA Testing Process

Vehicles are tested on dynamometers, which are like giant treadmills for cars. The vehicle is held stationary while its wheels spin the dyno’s large rollers. The EPA’s fuel-economy test has specific rules, such as a set volume of air that a fan must blow under the car’s raised hood. After a vehicle is strapped down on a dyno, the engineers adjust the amount of energy required to move the rollers to simulate real-world factors, such as wind, road friction and the vehicles weight.

On the dyno, a driver runs the vehicle through standardized driving routines called cycles or schedules. These cycles simulate “typical” trips in the city or on the highway. Each cycle specifies the speed the vehicle must travel during each second in the test.

Measuring Fuel Use

To measure for fuel use, vehicles using carbon-based fuels (e.g., gasoline, diesel, natural gas, etc.), a hose is connected to the tailpipe to collect the engine exhaust during the tests. The carbon in the exhaust is measured to calculate the amount of fuel burned during the test. This is more accurate than using a fuel gauge.

Measuring Fuel Use for Electric Vehicles

A EV vehicle with a fully charged battery is driven continuously over the EPA city cycle until the battery is depleted and the vehicle can drive no further. The distance driven is recorded. This is repeated, again starting with a full charge, over the EPA highway cycle, again recording the distance driven when the battery is depleted. This “single cycle” test consists of multiple repeat drives of the city or highway cycle.

All data is derived from vehicle testing done at EPA’s NVFEL facility, and by vehicle manufacturers who submit their test data to EPA for verification.

Based on 45% highway, 55% city driving, 15,000 annual miles and current fuel prices.

Overall Safety Rating Explained

Recalls provided by NHTSA

Crash test data sourced direct from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The NHTSA conducts a series of crash tests to evaluate the safety performance of vehicles. The tests include:

Frontal Crash Test: This test simulates a head-on collision between two similar vehicles, each traveling at 35 mph.

Side Crash Test: This test simulates a T-bone collision between a moving vehicle and a stationary vehicle. The moving vehicle strikes the stationary vehicle at 38.5 mph.

Rollover Resistance Test: This test measures a vehicle's ability to resist tipping over in a dynamic test that involves a sudden turn.

Rear Crash Test: This test simulates a collision between two vehicles of similar size and weight, with one vehicle striking the other from behind at 50 mph.

Pedestrian Safety Test: This test evaluates a vehicle's ability to mitigate pedestrian injuries in a collision.

The results of these tests are used to determine a vehicle's overall safety rating, which ranges from 1 to 5.

5 out of 5 rating indicates the vehicle has the highest level of safety performance

1 out of 5 rating indicates the lowest level of safety performance.

Total Complaints Explained

Complaint Meter

If the number of complaints is above 300 for a particular car model, it may be a cause for concern.

However, examining the severity of complaints is crucial because a newer model (less than 3 years old) may not necessarily have many complaints due to its limited mileage.

While a car model with a lot of complaints may still indicate potential issues, the severity of the complaints is important to consider, as a high quantity of low severity complaints may not be as significant as a smaller number of high severity complaints.

For example, some complaints may be minor, such as issues with the infotainment system, while others may be more serious and costly, such as engine, transmission, charging, or airbag problems.

Additionally, it's important to consider if the reported problems resulted in a crash, fire, injury, or even a death.
Reported problems have resulted int the following

Ultimately, it's important to research the owner complaints found on this page to help weigh the potential risks and benefits of purchasing this vehicle.

Most Reported Problem Explained

The Most Reported Problem stat is a valuable data point that alerts you to the most frequent issue reported by vehicle owners, and helps identify emerging problem trends.

And if the most reported problem has a "Critical" or "Serious" severity rating, you may want to consider researching other model years, or a completely different vehicle altogether.

Severity Ratings Explained

Car problems can vary in their severity and potential safety risks. For example, a problem with a Parking Brake could be a minor issue that may be quickly resolved.

On the other hand, a malfunctioning Forward Collision Avoidance System could pose a serious risk to the driver and passengers, as well as other vehicles on the road.
